Shorter boundaries. Longer warm-ups. Better stories every year. Welcome to Over 40s cricket at Charlesworth & Chisworth CC.

    Wednesdays · 6:30pm start · 20 overs, hardball · around 12–15 games a season

"The boundaries are shorter, the warm-ups are longer, and the stories get better every year."
    What it's all about

Cricket the way it was always meant to be played.

Whether you're here to relive former glory, discover a late-career cover drive, or simply enjoy a good evening with friends — you're in the right place. Our Over 40s side is the most relaxed corner of the club, but don't mistake easy-going for indifferent.

The cricket matters, of course. There's pride in every run and every wicket. But the post-match tea is just as important — and the conversations afterwards even more so. Expect proper laughter, gentle sledging (largely from your own teammates) and plenty of beer.

So pad up, take your time stretching, and remember: the spirit of the game lasts well beyond the final over.

    What to expect

    Competitive cricket. Genuine fun.

    It Still Matters

Pride in every run, every wicket, every catch. The competitive edge never quite fades.

    Shorter Format

Shorter boundaries and a relaxed format that respects ageing knees and slightly slower legs.

    Friendly Sledging

The gentle ribbing comes mostly from your own teammates — and is always followed by a pint.

    Cricket Tea & Beer

Post-match tea, drinks in the clubhouse, and stories that grow taller with every retelling.

    Who it's for

Anyone aged 40+ who loves the game.

    The Veteran

Years of league cricket behind you and a few more good seasons left in the legs.

    The Returner

Hung up the bat a decade ago and ready to dust it off in a friendlier setting.

    The Newcomer

Always fancied giving cricket a proper go — Over 40s is the perfect place to start.

    Frequently asked questions

When are the Over 40s games?
Games are generally on Wednesday evenings, starting at 6:30pm. We play around 12–15 games a season, weather permitting. Message us through the contact form and we'll add you to the list so you hear about every game.
What format is it? Hardball or soft ball?
Games are 20 overs a side with a hard ball. Everyone bowls two overs and batters retire at 25, so everyone gets a proper bat and bowl. Boundaries are shorter and the pace is relaxed, so you don't need to be match-fit.
I haven't played for 20 years. Will I embarrass myself?
Not a chance. Over 40s is built for returners, and the gentle ribbing comes mostly from your own teammates. Come to one game, see how it feels, and decide from there.
I've never played cricket at all. Can I still join?
Yes. Over 40s is one of the easiest places in the club to start: friendly, unhurried, and someone will always show you the basics.
    What does it cost?
Adult membership is £70 a year (£40 for women, £35 for students or the unemployed). Match fee is £10 on the day, which usually includes food after the game. Membership includes a sponsored club shirt. All you need for your first game is trainers and comfortable clothes.
