Grue Casts a Spell but Offerton Creep Over the Line

A low-scoring thriller at Offerton saw our Under 13s fall just short in a match where the willow was strangely silent and the leather did all the talking. In a contest that looked more like a tactical chess match than a typical Division B slugfest, Charlesworth grinded out 41 runs without losing a single wicket across their twenty overs. It was a masterclass in 'not getting out', even if the scoreboard didn't exactly catch fire. Defending such a modest total required some wizardry with the ball, and Eric Grue very nearly delivered a miracle. Eric was in devastating form, ripping through the Offerton ranks to finish with sensational figures of 4 for 6. He had the opposition batsmen lunging at ghosts, turning the game into a nervous collapse for the hosts. Alas, Offerton managed to crawl over the line, reaching 43 without further loss to claim the spoils. It wasn't the result we wanted, but the grit shown by our lads to stay in the middle—and Eric's absolute peach of a bowling performance—gives us plenty to boast about at the tea interval. Next time, we might consider hitting the ball a bit harder; it’s remarkably effective!
