Malamed’s Three Not Enough as Romiley Edge High Peak Thriller

A valiant effort under the High Peak sun wasn't quite enough this week, as our Women’s 1st XI fell 28 runs short against a clinical Romiley CC side. Chasing a formidable 133 in just 16 overs was always going to require some serious willow-wielding wizardry, and while we kept our wickets remarkably intact, the required run rate proved a steeper climb than the hill up to the ground. The Romiley openers clearly had an appointment elsewhere, racing to a hefty total despite some genuine heat from our attack. Our shining light in the field was undoubtedly Holly Malamed, who looked more dangerous than a loose carpet on a staircase. Holly’s superb 3-28 accounted for nearly the entire opposition casualty list, single-handedly keeping the target from drifting into 'impossible' territory. In reply, our batters showed more grit than a winter road, losing only two wickets across the entire innings. We played with the kind of defensive solidity that would make a stonemason weep with joy, finishing on 105. It was a dignified display of batting, even if we did spend a few too many balls admiring the scenery rather than the boundary rope. We’ll take the moral victory for wicket preservation, and hopefully next week we can find the extra gear. To the bar!
