Hadfield Take the Spoils as Charlesworth's Chase Stalls

Well, the tea tasted like victory, even if the scoreboard didn’t quite agree. In a spirited evening clash at home, Charlesworth’s Social Team found themselves on the wrong side of a 27-run margin against Hadfield St Andrew’s. The visitors set a brisk pace, reaching their half-century in just eight overs and eventually posting a formidable 124 for 4. Despite our bowlers' best efforts to keep things tidy, Hadfield’s batters clearly hadn’t received the memo that social cricket is supposed to be relaxing. Our chase started with the best of intentions, but the runs didn't flow quite as freely as the post-match refreshments. We reached our 50-run milestone in the 11th over, but the required rate climbed faster than a stray ball into the long grass. James Turley was the hero of the hour, striking a defiant 25 to give the home crowd something to cheer about, but we eventually finished our 20 overs on 97 for 6. It wasn't quite the masterclass we’d planned, but we certainly won the social points in the clubhouse afterwards. We’ll be back next week, hopefully with more runs in the middle and fewer extras allowed. If only James could have batted at both ends, we’d be top of the league!
