Fletcher Fires as Women’s 1st XI Wallop Offerton in Cup Clash

The High Peak Cup stayed firmly on home soil this week as our Women’s 1st XI delivered a masterclass in softball clinicality, dispatching Offerton CC by a comfortable 53 runs. The sun was shining, the tactics were spot on, and the tea ladies (or gentlemen, we don't discriminate) were already chilling the celebratory drinks by the tenth over. Charlesworth set a formidable target of 134 for 3 from their 16 overs. Leading the charge at the crease was Kerry Fletcher, who swung the willow with the grace of a gazelle and the power of a disgruntled steam train. Her knock of 28 was the backbone of an innings that left the Offerton fielders wondering if we’d secretly replaced the ball with a heat-seeking missile. In reply, Offerton found the 135-run mountain a bit too steep to climb without oxygen tanks. Despite losing only two wickets, their scoring was strangled by some tight, disciplined bowling that gave away nothing but a few sympathetic glances. They eventually finished on 81, well short of our total. It was a professional performance that suggests the 1st XI are becoming quite the force to be reckoned with. Offerton were lovely guests, but we’re much happier keeping the victory points for ourselves!
