Bottoms Up! Broadbottom Blitz Leaves Charlesworth Breathless

It’s fair to say the trip to Broadbottom didn’t quite go according to the script, unless that script was a horror movie entitled 'The Great Leather Hunt'. Charlesworth batted first and scratched together a respectable 129 for 7, but what followed was less of a run-chase and more of a demolition derby that saw our hosts gallop home without losing a single wicket. Gareth Evans was the solitary beacon of resistance in the first innings, crafting a stylish 40 that at least gave the bowlers something to defend. He played with the kind of poise that suggested the pitch was perfectly fine, while others found the Broadbottom attack a little less accommodating. Alas, our bowling attack was greeted with the hospitality of a hungry lion in a butcher’s shop. Broadbottom’s openers didn't bother with sightscreen adjustments or polite nods; they simply bludgeoned 133 runs in just 8.4 overs. It was a whirlwind display that left our fielders with little to do but practice their neck exercises by watching the ball fly over the ropes. We’ll be checking the Broadbottom tea for performance-enhancing scones before the return leg. Onwards and upwards, boys!
