Newton's Gleave Leaves Us Grieving in T20 Tumble

Well, that didn't exactly go to plan, did it? In a display of hospitality that perhaps went a step too far, our Twenty20 side allowed Newton CC to run riot on their own turf, resulting in a rather bruising defeat. Newton’s Andy Gleave was the primary architect of our misery, smashing a half-century and anchoring an opening stand of 50 that set a daunting tone. While Newton coasted to 166-4, our response was more 'damp squib' than 'firework display'. There were, however, some flickers of quality amidst the carnage. Cooper Bramley was the undeniable star with the ball, returning impressive figures of 2-12 and proving that some of us at least knew where the stumps were located. Unfortunately, Newton’s bowlers clearly knew where they were as well. The Charlesworth reply never quite found its gears, limping to the 50-run mark after nearly 12 overs before being unceremoniously bundled out for 54 in short order. It wasn't so much a run chase as a brisk walk to the exit. We’ll be checking the tea for any performance-diminishing substances, but for now, we tip our caps to Newton. At least the journey home was shorter than our innings!
