Glossop Goliaths Prove Too Gritty for Gallant Charlesworth

A heavy evening in Glossop saw our T20 squad run into a bit of a localized hurricane. The hosts, clearly having skipped the 'hospitality' portion of the evening, racked up a daunting 195-3. Our bowlers toiled away with the spirit of mountain goats, but Old Glossop found the boundaries with irritating regularity, leaving us with a mountain to climb higher than the local hills. Our response started with intent, but chasing nearly ten an over in the fading light is a task usually reserved for superheroes or the delusional. Finn Allen provided the backbone of the resistance, top-scoring with a defiant 29 that included some lovely strokes, but the wickets tumbled like a stack of dominoes at a breezy garden party. We eventually finished on 146-9, meaning we fell 49 runs short, though we take great pride in batting out our twenty overs and avoiding a complete collapse. It wasn't our night under the Glossop sky, but we’ll be back. On the bright side, the post-match refreshments are much easier to swallow when you don't have to defend a run rate!
