Narrow Miss at Broadbottom Despite Winterbottom’s Wizardry

In a clash that had more tension than a high-wire act, our Under 13s narrowly missed out on glory at Broadbottom. While the final scores suggest a defensive masterclass or perhaps a very long lunch break, the reality was a hard-fought scrap in the U13 North competition. Chasing down a total was always going to be a tall order, but the boys gave it a proper Charlesworth go before ending our innings at 19.4 overs. The shining light in our batting department was undoubtedly Jacob Berry. While others found the Broadbottom delivery a touch spicy, Jacob played a classy knock of 28, showing the kind of composure usually reserved for Sunday league veterans. He anchored the innings beautifully, finding gaps that the opposition didn't even know existed. On the bowling front, Ayden Winterbottom turned in a performance that would make a professional blush. Tearing in with the spirit of a young Steyn, Ayden snatched 3 wickets for a mere 4 runs. It was a spell of pure magic that had the Broadbottom batters looking back at their stumps in utter confusion. Despite our best efforts to skittle them, the hosts just managed to scramble over the line. We’ll get them in the return leg, provided we bring a few more runs in our pockets!
