Newton’s Law: What Goes Up Must Be Caught as U13s Fall Short

It was a tough day at the office for our Under 13s, who found themselves on the wrong side of a 45-run margin against a disciplined Newton CC. While the sun may have been shining on the home turf, the runs were unfortunately harder to find than a clean pair of whites at the bottom of a kit bag. The bowling department, however, deserves a hearty pat on the back. We restricted Newton to a modest 89-9, thanks in no small part to the clinical Alfie Winterbottom. Alfie was in devastating form, finishing with figures of 2-9 and moving the ball with the kind of precision that makes opening batters want to take up a safer hobby, like shark wrestling. Sadly, the run chase never quite found its rhythm. Despite batting out their full 20 overs, our young guns were stifled by some tight Newton lines, eventually trickling to 44-9. It wasn't exactly a run-fest, but the grit shown to protect those final wickets was commendable. We’ll take the lessons, forget the scorecard, and focus on the important things—like whose turn it is to buy the post-match crisps. We’ll be back, hopefully with a few more boundaries in our pockets next time!
