Victory by Default: High Lane Flee the Charlesworth Might!

In a display of sheer psychological dominance that would make Steve Waugh blush, the Charlesworth 3rd XI secured a thumping victory over High Lane 4th XI without so much as untying their pad straps. High Lane took one look at our travelling troupe of Sunday warriors and decided that discretion was the better part of valour, conceding the match before a single cherry could be polished. While we are naturally devastated not to have sampled High Lane’s tea selection, a win is a win. The scorecard might look a little bare, but the moral victory is gargantuan. One can only assume the opposition scouts caught wind of our ferocious warm-up routines and decided their stumps simply weren't built to withstand the impending onslaught. Special mentions must go to the entire squad for their impeccable discipline in not spilling a single drop of post-match refreshment. We remain undefeated, untroubled, and quite frankly, terrifying. It’s the easiest twenty points we’ll earn all season, though the thirsty 3rd XI would have much preferred to earn them through the medium of village-standard hoicks over mid-wicket. Still, if teams are going to surrender at the mere sight of us, who are we to complain? Our bus remains unbeaten, even if our bats didn't get a look in.
