Seth Sizzles as 3rd XI Topple Broadbottom in Sunday Scorcher

The sun was shining on Charlesworth as our 3rd XI delivered a masterclass in Sunday Development cricket, dispatching Broadbottom 4th XI by 37 runs. It was a day where the willow did the talking early on, leaving the visitors scratching their heads and chasing shadows across the home turf. The innings got off to a flier thanks to a rapid 50-run opening stand between James Giles and the indomitable Seth Pryce. Seth was in no mood for hanging around, dispatching the ball to the boundary eight times on his way to a blistering 53 off just 36 balls. Despite a few mid-innings wobbles that saw us finish on 165-9, the foundation was as solid as the pavilion masonry. Broadbottom’s reply was about as brisk as a Sunday stroll in heavy boots. While they showed some late-order grit with a 50-run ninth-wicket partnership, Mike Woodhead ensured there would be no fairy tale for the visitors. Woodhead was clinical, snaring 3-19 and keeping the run rate under lock and key. A cracking victory for the Threes, proving that while we enjoy the social side of the Sunday League, we’re quite fond of winning too. Broadbottom fought hard, but today the glory stays in the Charlesworth trophy cabinet—or at least on the bar!
