Loveday's Three-Wicket Haul Leaves High Lane Crumbling at Tea

The tea sandwiches have never tasted so sweet at High Lane, as our 3rd XI head into the break with the wind in their sails and the scent of an upset in the air. High Lane’s 4th XI managed to scrape together 172 for 9 off their 35 overs, but for a long time, it looked like they wouldn't even manage that. Our local heroes bowled with the discipline of a Victorian headmaster, refusing to give an inch while the hosts huffed and puffed. The undisputed star of the opening act was Finlay Loveday, who terrorised the High Lane middle order like a cat in a yarn shop. Finishing with impressive figures of 3-31, Finlay’s spell was a masterclass in 'putting it on a sixpence'—or at least somewhere near it. Every time the opposition threatened to break the shackles, he popped up to deflate their hopes, leaving the scoreboard looking far more respectable for us than for them. We currently sit at the midpoint, poised and ready to chase down 173 for a famous development league victory. The bowling display has given our batters a fantastic platform; all that’s left is for the top order to avoid any post-scone lethargy. If we can keep our heads and find the boundary, the journey home will be a very merry one indeed. Let’s hope the boys have remembered their running spikes and forgotten the extra helping of cake!
