Watson and Grue Steer 3rds to Gritty Victory over Broadbottom

It was a classic Sunday afternoon scrap at home as the 3rd XI secured a hard-fought victory against Broadbottom CC 4th XI. After skittling the visitors for 113, our boys wobbled slightly before crossing the finish line with four wickets to spare. It wasn’t always pretty, but a win founded on grit—and a fair amount of stump-rattling—is always the sweetest. The visitors struggled to find any rhythm against a disciplined attack. The highlight of the first innings was undoubtedly a devastating spell from young Noah. He was practically unplayable, finishing his four-over stint with eye-watering figures of 2 for 6. Honestly, he owes us a refund for a new set of bails after rattling the stumps that hard. Broadbottom limped to 113, largely aided by a generous helping of extras, but the target looked well within reach. The chase proved trickier than expected until Edward Watson and Alf Grue took charge. Watson played the anchor role beautifully, top-scoring with 39, and combined with Grue for a vital 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Their stand settled the nerves and ensured we hit the 114 mark in the 30th over. If Watson keeps this up, we might even stop teasing him about his fielding. Another fine day for the development squad!
