Broadly Beaten! Ladies 1st XI Crush Broadbottom at the Fortress

It was a glorious afternoon at the fortress as our Ladies 1st XI Softball side didn't just beat Broadbottom; they sent them packing with a cricketing lesson they won’t soon forget. In a display of pure dominance, Charlesworth romped to a victory so comprehensive it almost felt unsporting. Almost. The visitors were put through the wringer early on as Grace Pierce turned into a one-woman wrecking ball. Grace dismantled the Broadbottom middle order with a clinical spell, returning figures of 3-11 that left the opposition batters looking like they were trying to swat flies in a dark room. Broadbottom eventually limped to 70-7, a total that Charlesworth viewed more as a light snack than a serious challenge. When it was our turn to wield the willow, the fireworks really began. Emma Bramwell led the charge with a scintillating 34, anchoring an innings that saw boundaries peppered all over the home turf. We cruised to a mammoth 135-2, nearly doubling the visitors' tally and ensuring the DCCL Division 2 table looks very healthy indeed. If Broadbottom were looking for a soft touch, they certainly came to the wrong village. We’ll be celebrating this one in the clubhouse—partly for the points, but mostly for Emma's cover drives.
