Leanne Leads the Way as Ladies Leapfrog Chapel!

In a match that had more nerve-shredding tension than a final-over thriller at Lord’s, our Ladies 1st XI squeezed past Chapel-en-le-Frith to claim a hard-fought victory. Standing tall in the picturesque Peak District, the Charlesworth crew posted a total of 102 for 6, a score that felt just about defendable if the wind blew the right way and the cricketing gods were feeling charitable. The batting effort was anchored by a sterling performance from Leanne Urquhart, who smoked a composed 25. Her innings was the glue holding the side together, ensuring we didn't just limp to triple figures but strode there with intent. It wasn't always pretty—six wickets falling suggests a certain 'flair' for the dramatic—but in softball cricket, runs on the board are better than style points in the pavilion. Chapel gave it a real go in response, finishing their 16 overs on 94 for 3. They were incredibly careful with their wickets, but the Charlesworth bowling unit kept the scoring doors firmly bolted. Despite having fewer hurdles to clear in terms of lost wickets, Chapel simply couldn't find the boundary often enough to bridge the eight-run gap. A cracking result away from home that puts a spring in the step of the Ladies 1st XI. We’ll be celebrating this one with a slightly smug grin and perhaps an extra sandwich at the next tea interval!
