Grace Under Pressure: Ladies 1st XI Pierce Hazel Grove’s Hopes!

The sun was out, the tea was excellent, and the Ladies 1st XI were in no mood to be hospitable on the pitch this weekend. In a performance that can only be described as clinical, Charlesworth dismantled Hazel Grove CC to secure a convincing 16-run victory in the DCCL Division 2. Setting a formidable target, our ladies batted with the kind of composure usually reserved for choosing the post-match wine, posting 106 for the loss of just one solitary wicket. It was a masterclass in protecting the woodwork, leaving Hazel Grove with a mountain to climb and very little oxygen. The real fireworks, however, came during the defence. Grace Pierce turned into a one-woman wrecking ball, tearing through the opposition lineup with a devastating spell of 3-4. Watching the Hazel Grove wickets tumble was like watching a house of cards in a gale. The visitors eventually limped to 90-8 as our bowling unit collectively squeezed the life out of the chase. A stellar day at the office for the 1st XI, who proved once again that while we might be polite hosts, we are very selfish when it comes to the league points. Keep playing like this, and we’ll need a bigger trophy cabinet—or at least a bigger wine rack!
