Pierce Sharp as Ladies 1st XI Leave New Mills in a Spin

The sun was out, the tea was calling, and the Charlesworth & Chisworth Ladies 1st XI were in no mood to be hospitable to our neighbours from New Mills. In a clash that had more tension than a brand-new set of pads, our girls secured a hard-fought victory in the DCCL Division 2, proving once again that home turf is where the heart (and the winning runs) are. Setting the tone with the ball, Grace Pierce was absolute lightning. She ripped through the New Mills ranks like a hungover member at the club buffet, finishing with stellar figures of 2-14. Her pinpoint accuracy kept the visitors restricted to a modest 70 runs across their 16 overs, leaving the batting unit with a clear target and a thirst for glory. The chase wasn't without its wobbles—losing five wickets kept the spectators on the edge of their deckchairs—but the Ladies showed plenty of grit to overhaul the total. We finished on a solid 87 runs, enough to bag the points and bragging rights over the hill. It was a clinical performance that suggests New Mills might want to stick to their namesake and grind out some more practice. We, meanwhile, will be celebrating with something fizzy at the bar!
