Hayfield Hop Away With Points Despite Bramwell's Batting Blitz

In a clash that had more tension than a tightly-wound seam, our Ladies 1st XI Softball squad put up a spirited fight at home, only to be edged out by a clinical Hayfield CC. The visitors posted a daunting 128 for 4, proving that they haven’t spent their winter just drinking tea and dreaming of summer. Charlesworth’s chase began with plenty of intent, but the wickets tumbled just a little too frequently to keep the momentum on our side. Emma Bramwell was the undisputed star with the willow, dispatching the ball with such authority (scoring a classy 21) that the Hayfield fielders began to look quite concerned for their shins. Despite her heroics, we finished our 16 overs on 113 for 7, just a few boundaries short of glory. Earlier in the day, Heather Whitney had done her best to stem the flow of runs, returning impressive figures of 2-20 and making the Hayfield batters look decidedly uncomfortable. It was a bowling performance that deserved a standing ovation, or at least an extra large slice of cake at tea. We might have come second on the scorecard today, but we definitely won the 'Best Spirit' award in our own minds. Onwards to the next fixture, where we hope to find a few more runs and perhaps a slightly smaller boundary!
