Gilham’s Five-Star Show Silences Chapel in Low-Scoring Thriller

Who says you need a mountain of runs to defend a fortress? In a low-scoring thriller at home, Charlesworth’s 1st XI proved that 135 runs are plenty when you have a bowling attack with teeth. We scrapped our way to a hard-fought total, showing more grit than a sandpaper factory, despite the Chapel bowlers making life difficult for our middle order. The innings was a slow burner, with the 50-run mark taking a patient 18.1 overs to reach. Sam Gilham provided the backbone of the batting with a vital 21, helping us limp over the triple-digit mark in the 36th over. It wasn't exactly a run-fest, but it gave our bowlers something to defend—and boy, did they defend it. If Gilham was the anchor with the bat, he was a heat-seeking missile with the ball. Tearing through the Chapel lineup, Sam claimed a magnificent 5-29, leaving the visitors looking utterly bewildered. Chapel-en-le-Frith could only muster 85 before the final wicket fell in the 33rd over, ensuring the Division 1 points stayed exactly where they belong. A stellar day for Sam Gilham, who officially owns Chapel now. We’d invite them for a drink, but we suspect they’ve seen enough of us for one weekend!
