Whaley Big Win! 2nd XI Bridge the Gap with Dominant Display

The 2nd XI took a scenic trip to Whaley Bridge this weekend and returned with maximum points and enough swagger to fill the tea rooms. It was a dominant display from the off, as Charlesworth dismantled the hosts to secure a resounding victory in Division 3. Our innings was a masterclass in aggressive intent. Danny Miller set the tone, bludgeoning a 35-ball half-century that included seven boundaries and two maximums. Not to be outdone, Dave Smith anchored the ship with a classy 66, reaching his own fifty in 88 balls. With the help of a tidy 4th-wicket stand involving Sean Miller, we cruised past the 200-mark to finish on a formidable 213-5. In response, Whaley Bridge found themselves in a spin—literally and figuratively. The star of the show was Ella Kassim, who tore through the middle order with a magnificent spell of 4-39. The hosts struggled to keep pace with the climbing run rate and were eventually bundled out for 128 in the final over of the day. A clinical performance all round, really. We suspect the Whaley Bridge bowlers might still be having nightmares about the Miller-Smith partnership, while Ella has rightfully claimed bragging rights for the week. We’ll celebrate this one with a pint, or perhaps two, before the next outing!
