Shrigley Shocker: 2nd XI Left Stirred but Not Shaken

A trip to Pott Shrigley ended in a rather polite surrender this weekend, as our 2nd XI found the boundary ropes about as elusive as a cold pint at a dry wedding. While the scenery was lovely, the scorecard was less so, with the hosts securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory that left us nursing little more than bruised pride. Batting first, the Charlesworth lads struggled to find their rhythm, eventually being bundled out for a modest 118 in 34.2 overs. Sean Miller was the lone beacon of resistance, grafting his way to a gritty 30, but unfortunately, he had fewer partners than a solo ballroom dancer. The rest of the order seemed in a desperate hurry to sample the Shrigley tea, which, to be fair, is usually excellent. Defending such a target required early miracles, but Pott Shrigley’s top order had other ideas. Despite our best efforts to turn the screws, the hosts cruised to 120-3 in just under 24 overs. It wasn't exactly a thrashing, but more of a gentle, persistent nudge out of the contest. We leave with our heads held high and our kits slightly cleaner than usual. Onwards to next week, where we promise to actually stay at the crease long enough to let the scoreboard operator break a sweat!
