Glossop Gloss Over Our Hopes in Division 1 Duel

It was a day of 'what ifs' at home as the 1st XI fell to a stubborn Old Glossop side. The visitors managed to scramble to 194-7, a total that felt just a North Sea breeze too high for comfort. We had our moments in the field, but Glossop’s Tom Lane proved harder to remove than a stubborn grass stain, anchoring their innings with a gritty half-century that ultimately took the game away from us. Young Cooper Bramley was the shining light with the ball, charging in to claim a spirited 3-46. He showed the kind of heart that makes a reporter misty-eyed, even if the scoreboard was less sentimental. When it was our turn to wield the willow, the chase never quite found its rhythm. Nick Bennett offered some resistance with a hard-fought 26, but the middle order collapsed quicker than a deckchair in a gale, eventually folding for 118 in the 32nd over. While Rob Adderley’s five-wicket haul for the visitors was admittedly impressive, we prefer to think of it as our batters being overly generous hosts. We’ll lick our wounds, find the middle of the bat next week, and perhaps remind the groundsman that we prefer a slightly shorter boundary when chasing two hundred!
