High Lane Blues: Bramley’s Lone Resistance Not Enough

A trip to High Lane is usually a pleasant scenic detour, but our 1st XI found the terrain a little too rugged this weekend as the hosts galloped to a six-wicket victory. After being put in to navigate some tricky conditions, our batting line-up unfortunately unfolded like a deckchair in a gale, collapsing for 130 in 35.3 overs. Despite the gloom, Cooper Bramley decided he wasn't going down without a fight. Cooper top-scored with a gritty 33 that featured more defiance than a toddler at bedtime, giving our bowlers a slim total to defend. It wasn't quite the mountain we needed, but at least it wasn't a molehill. When High Lane took to the crease, they made relatively short work of the chase, knocking off the runs in just 26.4 overs. However, the ever-present Bramley proved to be a thorn in their side once more, claiming 2-56 to ensure the home side didn't have it all their own way. We head back to Charlesworth with our heads held high and our kits slightly muddier. On the bright side, we’ve pinpointed our weakness: not scoring enough runs and the opposition scoring too many. Back to the drawing board!
