Holden Your Breath: Bridge Blitz Leaves CC 1st XI Stunned

Well, that was efficient. If you blinked at the wrong moment during our Division 1 clash with Whaley Bridge, you likely missed the entire spectacle. The Charlesworth 1st XI endured a day as cold as a mother-in-law's look, collapsing to a modest 48 all out in just 21.2 overs. While our boys showed great spirit in showing up, the same couldn't be said for our staying power at the crease. The main architect of our misery was Whaley Bridge’s Henry Holden, who clearly had dinner reservations he didn't want to miss. Not content with snaring a five-wicket haul, he decided to rub salt in the wounds by claiming a hat-trick in the 19th over. It was a bowling display of metronomic precision that left our middle order wondering if they’d left the stove on back home. Defending 48 was always going to require a miracle or a sudden downpour of Biblical proportions, but neither arrived. Instead, the Holden family partnership at the top of the Whaley Bridge order treated our bowlers like a buffet, racing to 51 without loss in just four overs. George and Henry Holden knocked off the runs in a mere 16 minutes, which is roughly the time it takes our Chairman to find his glasses. It wasn't our finest hour—literally, it only took about 90 minutes—but we’ll take the bruising on the chin. We’ve had longer waits at the bar than we had at the crease today!
