Agony in the Peaks: 2nd XI Fall One Wicket Short in Buxworth Thriller

Talk about a heart-stopper! The 2nd XI headed to Buxworth for a Division 3 clash that had more twists than a seaside ice cream. In a game that went down to the absolute wire, our boys were agonisingly pipped at the post by a single wicket. It wasn’t the result we toasted in the pub afterwards, but goodness me, did we give them a fright. Earlier in the day, batting proved a trickier task than explaining the LBW rule to a toddler. We were bundled out for 133 in 37.4 overs, largely thanks to some stubborn resistance from Dave Smith, who top-scored with a gritty 32. It felt a tad light at the tea interval, but our bowlers clearly hadn’t read the script. David Sergeant was the undisputed star of the second act, turning the reply into a frantic scramble with a brilliant 4-45. Every time Buxworth thought they were home, 'Sarge' marched them back to the pavilion. However, the hosts managed to limp across the line at 134-9 with just five balls to spare. A valiant effort by the lads, though we’ll be dreaming of that final wicket all week. We'll get 'em next time—preferably with a few more runs and a lot less stress!
