Harris Hurrican Hits Charlesworth as Tintwistle Take the Spoils

In a clash that had more twists than a village country lane, the 1st XI hosted Tintwistle CC in Division 1. Despite a valiant effort and a total of 192 that looked halfway decent at tea, we were eventually blown away by some rather antisocially good batting from the visitors, handing them an eight-wicket victory. The afternoon started brightly enough for the Charlesworth faithful. Ivan Heathcote was the star of the show, anchoring the innings with a classy 50 off 63 balls. He and Gareth Evans put on a crisp 50-run opening stand that had the pavilion dreaming of a massive score. We scratched our way to 150 in the 38th over, but the tail couldn't quite wag hard enough to push past the double-century mark, eventually bundled out for 192 in the 45th over. Unfortunately, Tintwistle’s Charlie Harris clearly had a dinner reservation he was running late for. After we snagged two early scalps, Harris unleashed a brutal 100 off just 82 balls. He and Kilano Brathwaite shared an unbeaten 150-run stand that made our bowling attack feel particularly generous. Tintwistle chased the target in just 25.2 overs, which is roughly the time it takes most of us to put on our pads. A tough day at the office, certainly, but we’ll take the points for the tea and go again next week. At least we didn't have to field for all 50 overs!
