Rain Stops Play: A Four-Over Thriller at Charlesworth!

In a match that lasted roughly as long as a microwaveable lasagne, the heavens opened at Charlesworth to deny the 2nd XI a chance at glory. Kerridge CC arrived with all the intent of a side looking to climb the Division 3 table, but they barely had time to adjust their abdominal guards before the clouds decided to intervene. The visitors managed to reach 14 without loss in four overs of frantic activity. Our bowlers were just beginning to find their rhythm—or at least that’s what we’ll tell the selection committee—when the drizzle turned into a deluge. There were more umbrellas on display than clinical out-swingers by 2:30 PM, and the square soon resembled a private boating lake rather than a cricket pitch. While we didn’t get to see any timber flying or spectacular catches, we did excel in the post-abandonment tea consumption. It’s a point apiece, which seems a fair trade for avoiding four hours of shivering in the outfield. We move on to next week, praying for a sun that actually stays out past the toss. Most of the lads were just relieved they didn't have to face a single ball on a deck that was fluffier than a Victorian pillow.
